Shanghai Haute Couture brand "Tang Yun - Red Embroidery" has officially made its debut at the Bund Peninsula Hotel, marking a significant milestone as the only Chinese brand to be accepted among over 20 internationally renowned labels. This exclusive presence highlights the brand's unique position in the global luxury fashion scene. Known for its exquisite craftsmanship, "Tang Yun - Red Embroidery" combines traditional techniques with modern elegance. The brand’s signature feature is its use of non-fading, hand-painted pigments applied directly by artists, following ancient silk painting methods that date back centuries.
At the same time, the brand launched its new Spring and Summer 2010 collection titled “National Flavor,†continuing its commitment to integrating traditional Chinese cultural elements into contemporary fashion. The collection features high-quality silk and brocade fabrics, chosen to reflect an elegant and refined aesthetic. Each piece is hand-painted using time-honored techniques—artists begin with a light ink sketch, then apply color, and finally add intricate details with fine brushwork.
The “National Flavor†series showcases beautiful depictions of lotus flowers, with petals rendered in white, brown, and black tones, mimicking natural textures. In addition to the traditional painting method, the brand also retains its signature handmade embroidery style, where master embroiders use ancient techniques to create delicate patterns on the fabric.
Interestingly, during the 17th and 18th centuries, Chinese silk imported to Europe was not primarily Damask or brocade, but rather hand-painted silk and embroidered textiles. Many of these pieces are now preserved in European museums, showcasing the artistic value of Chinese craftsmanship. The fusion of classical Chinese painting and embroidery art can be traced back to the Song Dynasty, when a new type of thin brocade was developed in Suzhou for mounting paintings and calligraphy.
By the Ming Dynasty, Suzhou embroidery had evolved to include floral and avian motifs, closely resembling traditional Chinese painting. The interplay between embroidery and painting became more refined, with techniques such as subtle color blending being adopted to replicate the softness seen in classical Chinese art. This deep historical connection continues to inspire the creative vision of "Tang Yun - Red Embroidery," ensuring that tradition remains at the heart of every design.
