weekend links: shoe theory

Hello everyone! For as long as I can remember, my dream wardrobe has always been straightforward: a small collection of versatile pieces that effortlessly transition between different events in my life—whether it's a cozy day at home, a formal evening at the opera, or an adventurous hike in the mountains. In essence, I've always aspired to create an all-purpose core wardrobe. This vision actually inspired me to pursue a career in fashion design. I want to feel prepared for any occasion, knowing I have just the right outfit. Additionally, since I prefer to keep my wardrobe minimal, every piece needs to serve multiple purposes. Call me old-fashioned, but I’ve always leaned toward the capsule wardrobe concept. While I haven't fully achieved it yet, with far too many items in my closet that I don't truly need, it remains my ultimate goal. When it comes to accessories, minimalism is my guiding principle. I believe in investing in high-quality pieces that will stand the test of time. Costume jewelry simply doesn't interest me—I crave timeless, elegant designs that seamlessly complement everything in my wardrobe. The same philosophy extends to footwear, though this is where I often find myself struggling. During winter, ankle boots are my go-to because they pair beautifully with both skirts and trousers. In summer, strappy sandals with a slight heel offer similar versatility. However, the transitional seasons—fall and spring—are a real challenge. How do you accessorize skirts and dresses during these times? Boots feel too heavy, while sandals are too chilly. Heels seem overly formal for casual settings and aren't exactly comfortable for long walks. ![Image](http://bsg-i.nbxc.com/blog/768bc2a663ac2b508b3598c258d03582.jpg) I'm still figuring out the perfect solution for this dilemma. Traveling presents its own set of challenges, particularly when it comes to packing light. Last summer, during our ten-day trip to New York City, I realized the importance of balancing comfort and style. While I adore my sandals, constant walking can quickly become tiring. Unfortunately, sneakers don't suit my aesthetic, making them less than ideal for my trips. It dawned on me mid-pack that my ideal shoe mix involves pairing classic sneakers with shorter skirts or dresses—but never with shorts. Sandals, on the other hand, work beautifully with shorts by adding a touch of elegance. This realization led me to develop my "Shoe Theory"—a concept that balances tailored, masculine elements with softer, feminine ones. For instance, sneakers should always be paired with flirty skirts or dresses, whereas heels should complement structured pieces like button-downs and chinos. That’s my current approach to footwear, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect in-between-season shoes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! --- **P.S.** If you have any tips for finding that elusive middle-ground shoe, let me know! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
