weekend links: shoe theory

Hello friends! For as long as I can recall, my dream wardrobe has always been pretty straightforward: I want a small collection of clothes that go well together and can take me through every occasion in my life, whether it's a casual day at home, a formal night at the opera, or an adventurous hike in the mountains. Essentially, I've always been after what you might call an all-purpose wardrobe. This vision actually inspired me to pursue a career in fashion design. I want to feel confident knowing that no matter the event or situation, I'll have just the right outfit. Plus, since I prefer to own fewer pieces, I also aim to maximize the versatility of each item. You could say I've always leaned toward the capsule wardrobe concept. While I haven't fully achieved it yet—my closet still contains a few unnecessary items—it remains my ultimate goal. Minimalism guides my choices when it comes to accessories too. Generally, I prefer investing in high-quality, timeless pieces of jewelry that can last for years. I'm not into gold-plated costume jewelry. Instead, I opt for beautiful, elegant designs that can complement anything in my closet. The same minimalist approach extends to footwear, though I must admit, shoes are where I find myself struggling the most. During winter, I usually stick to ankle boots because they work well with both skirts and trousers. In summer, I rely on strappy sandals with a slight heel for similar reasons. But the transition seasons—fall and spring—are tough. Boots feel too heavy, while sandals are too chilly. Flats seem too formal for everyday wear and aren't very comfortable for long walks. I'm still working on finding the ideal solution for these transitional months. Traveling adds another layer of complexity to my wardrobe dilemmas. This past summer, we spent ten days in New York, and I wanted to ensure I stayed comfortable while exploring the city. As much as I adore my sandals, walking endlessly can get tiring. Oddly enough, I've never been a fan of sneakers—they just don't suit my style. It wasn't until I was packing that I finally figured out the perfect mix for me. I wear my classic sneakers with shorter skirts and dresses, but not with shorts. Sandals, on the other hand, pair beautifully with shorts because they give them a touch of sophistication. That's when it hit me: the key is balancing masculine and feminine styles. If I'm wearing sneakers, they should be paired with something flirty like a skirt or dress. Conversely, if I'm opting for feminine sandals, I can pair them with more structured, masculine elements such as button-down shirts or chino shorts. That's my new shoe theory. However, I'm still on the hunt for the perfect in-between-season shoes. Any suggestions? Please let me know if you have any ideas! P.S. I'm always open to experimenting with new combinations, so feel free to share your thoughts. Cheers!
