Today we’re thrilled to introduce Meredith to our readers. She’s here to talk about her beloved Oliver + S pattern—a classic boys’ shirt—and to showcase the impressive array of versions she’s crafted. Just the other day, Meredith found out she’s a contestant on the Super Online Sewing Match II, currently underway over at Sew, Mama, Sew. Thank you so much, Meredith, for taking time out of your packed schedule to join us!

Hi everyone! I’m Meredith, the blogger behind Olivia Jane Handcrafted and someone who probably spends way too much time scrolling through Instagram. I’m a self-taught sewer, and my journey started with quilting and baby clothes when my daughter was born. But before long, I was diving into garment sewing. If you’ve ever tried an Oliver + S pattern, you’ll understand—it’s addictive. For me, it all began with their Sketchbook Shirt, a boys’ pattern that quickly became my absolute favorite.

I first stitched up this pattern almost a year ago. My son was huge as a newborn and outgrew 9-month clothes by three months old. I needed some bigger options! When I picked up the Sketchbook Shirt pattern, I was delighted to learn it only required half a meter of fabric. Within days, I had three new shirts ready for him.

Boys' or men's wardrobes often feature oxford-style shirts as timeless staples, and this pattern delivers exactly that. Imagine owning nothing but this style—yet with enough variety in fabric choices, you’d rarely repeat an outfit. It’s incredibly versatile, effortlessly transitioning from casual to formal looks, and always looks crisp and polished.
In the past year, I’ve made six Sketchbook Shirts for my son, Wallace. They add so much variety to his wardrobe, and the pattern allows for a range of fabric options. Since we live in hot, humid Southwest Florida, I mostly use lightweight fabrics like lawn or chambray. However, you could also experiment with heavier flannels in colder climates—this pattern really adapts to any season!

One thing I adore about this pattern is how it empowers even beginners like myself. Before diving into shirt-making, I thought it was a daunting task reserved for experts. But Liesl’s clear instructions made it approachable step-by-step. I didn’t have prior experience making men’s shirts, yet I completed my first one flawlessly. The result? Gorgeous, professional-looking garments that I’m proud to display.
So far, I’ve made five Sketchbook Shirts, but trust me—they’re not the last! This is one of those patterns I end up sewing in batches because it’s impossible to stop at just one. Each version feels fresh, thanks to the endless possibilities with fabric and styling.

If you're interested in learning more about the Sketchbook Shirt, check out Liesl’s original introduction back in 2010. It’s fascinating to see how this pattern has stood the test of time.

(And yes, I promise to post more updates soon. Life gets busy, but my love for sewing keeps pulling me back!)
Tonneau Watch Case
In the mainstream Watch Case shapes, round and square are always the most common shape designs, and they are also the most accepted shapes by the public. Others such as oval, twisted, trapezoidal and even triangle can be regarded as variations of the two. As a special existence among them, the barrel shape combines the square in the circle, the circle in the square, and the round shape without losing the edge. It can save the aesthetic fatigue after looking at the round watch for a long time. After discovering this, those well-known watch brands have launched their own barrel-shaped watch masterpieces, which are all the rage and amazing. such RM, FM, Hublot, when you mentioned Tonneau, you will think about them.
There is special word for it. called "Tonneau" in French for Barrel shape.
