"**FASHIONSHENZHEN**" created a big buzz in the traditional city of London. On Thursday, over 20 enterprise delegations from well-known fashion brands in Shenzhen held a major industry promotion event in London, the birthplace of modern fashion, to introduce Shenzhen’s garment industry to the world and showcase the unique "Shenzhen Apparel" style.
Shen Yongfang, Secretary General of the Shenzhen Garment Industry Association, explained that London Fashion Week is one of the most prestigious fashion events in the UK and among the top four global fashion shows. Known for its diversity, energy, and creativity, it has a huge influence on the global fashion scene and serves as an ideal platform for Chinese designers and brands to enter the international market.
To promote Shenzhen’s garment industry in Europe and strengthen economic and trade cooperation, the delegation was invited by the British-Chinese Trade Association. From September 17 to 21, under the leadership of Lu Jian, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Information Industry, and in collaboration with the Municipal Commission of Industry, Trade, and Commerce, the Shenzhen Garment Industry Association organized the "2010 Shenzhen Fashion Industry Promotion Conference" (FASHIONSHENZHEN). This event featured 20 leading Shenzhen fashion brands, including Ge Lisi, Aoni, Aite, Gulanxiu, Mulan, and Auspicious Zhai, making their debut at the 26th London Fashion Week.
Shen Yongfang highlighted that Shenzhen is one of the most developed cities in China's fashion industry, especially in branded apparel. The city leads the nation in R&D and design capabilities, with women’s fashion being particularly prominent. Shenzhen ranks first in terms of the number of brands, companies, and production value. Currently, the city is home to over 2,500 garment companies, employing 400,000 people, and hosting more than 800 clothing brands. In 2009, the industry generated a production value of 130 billion yuan (14.9 billion euros) and exported 6.9 billion euros, earning it the title of "Garment City" deservedly.
During the event, the Shenzhen delegation not only showcased a clothing exhibition but also organized a fashion show and a garment industry promotion conference. They presented a range of high-quality branded apparel by talented designers on the international stage, introducing Shenzhen’s fashion culture to the global fashion industry, media, and public. These achievements reflect Shenzhen’s vibrant and modern dress culture and its rising influence in the fashion world.
Speaking about the trip to London, exhibitors expressed deep emotions. Many believed that performing on a top-tier international fashion platform helped strengthen East-West fashion exchanges and further integrate Shenzhen’s garment industry into the global fashion circle. It also helped shape a more internationally competitive regional brand for Shenzhen women. Xia Guoxin, Vice Chairman of the China Garment Association and Chairman of Ge Lisi, believes that participating in overseas exhibitions will greatly expand the international reach of Shenzhen’s garment industry, bringing broader perspectives and channels to local designers and brands.
Yang Fan, Chairman of Shenzhen Auspicious Clothing Co., Ltd., shared her experience: “Good clothes are not only in France or Italy, but also in China, in Shenzhen!†She said that foreign counterparts were amazed by the quality of her products, which included hand-made, embroidered pieces with a strong Oriental charm.
