Recently, a market survey conducted by the Japan Chemical Fiber Association (JCFA) in 2009 highlighted a significant decline in Japan's chemical fiber production. According to the report, the country's overall output of synthetic fibers dropped sharply, while projections indicate that China and India are expected to see substantial growth in their fiber production in the coming years.
The survey revealed that Japan's total chemical fiber output fell by 6% in 2009 compared to the previous year, marking the lowest level in the nation's history. Specifically, the production of nylon filament, polyester, and acrylic fibers dropped to 68.2 million tons. Notably, nylon and polyester output declined by 34% and 33%, respectively, from the prior year, signaling a major shift in the industry.
On the global front, demand for fibers is anticipated to rise steadily. The JCFA forecasts that global chemical fiber consumption will reach 53.95 million tons by 2015, up from 43.51 million tons in 2008—a 24% increase. Among all countries, China and India are expected to lead in growth, driven by expanding manufacturing sectors, rising consumer demand, and increasing investments in textile industries. This trend reflects a broader shift in the global chemical fiber landscape, with emerging economies playing a more prominent role in the years ahead.
