Japanese market survey: 2015 chemical fiber consumption will reach 53.95 million tons

Recently, a market survey conducted by the Japan Chemical Fiber Association (JCFA) in 2009 highlighted significant shifts in global chemical fiber production. The report indicated that Japan’s chemical fiber output experienced a notable decline, while China and India are expected to see substantial growth in their production levels. According to the survey, Japan’s total chemical fiber production dropped by 6% in 2009 compared to the previous year, marking the lowest level ever recorded. This decline was particularly evident in key fiber types, such as nylon filament, polyester, and acrylic fibers, which saw their combined output fall to 68.20 million tons. Specifically, nylon production fell by 34%, and polyester production dropped by 33% from the prior year. These figures reflect a challenging period for Japan’s chemical fiber industry, driven by global economic conditions and shifting demand patterns. On the other hand, the global demand for chemical fibers is expected to rise steadily. The JCFA forecasts that world consumption of chemical fibers will reach 53.95 million tons by 2015, representing a 24% increase from the 43.51 million tons produced in 2008. Among the major economies, China and India are projected to lead this growth, with the highest annual growth rates globally. This trend underscores the increasing importance of emerging markets in shaping the future of the chemical fiber industry. As companies around the world adapt to these changing dynamics, the shift in production and consumption patterns highlights the need for strategic planning and investment in regions that are poised for long-term growth.
