LYCRA celebrates 60 years of breakthrough innovation

Tribute to the fiber inventor, INVISTA made a donation to the National Inventors Hall of Fame

China, Shanghai --2018 on May 3, LYCRA® (Lycra ®) brand owner Invista, recently held its LYCRA® (Lycra ®) 60 anniversary celebration of the advent of fiber, and the US National Inventors Hall of Fame donations. This original spandex fiber revolutionizes the entire fashion industry. In 1958, Dr. Joseph C. Shivers, a chemistry expert at DuPont, invented the world's most famous brand of fiber, and has since changed clothing and the way we wear it.

Sixty years later, Dr. Shivers was recognized by the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his invention. This year, Dr. Shivers, who was already dead, was selected for the 2018 list. The award ceremony was held on May 3 in Washington, USA.

The purpose of the original invention of LYCRA® fiber was to use it instead of an elastic band, because the elastic band tends to make women's body wear out of shape, and it is hot and uncomfortable to wear. And LYCRA® fiber can bring long-lasting comfort and freedom of movement to clothing, surpassing the natural fibers it replaces.

It was soon discovered that LYCRA® fibers have the potential to improve other types of women's and men's clothing. Today, this near-invisible fiber is found in almost all types of clothing, including: lingerie, lingerie, denim, sportswear, stockings, socks, swimwear and ready-to-wear. At the same time, LYCRA® fiber has also promoted the development of emerging segments with market capitalization of billions of dollars, including: shaping underwear, elastic denim, stress sportswear, and sports and leisure apparel.

60 years ago, LYCRA® fiber was only a single elastic fiber and was known for repeated stretching and washing without deformation. Today, the product portfolio has grown to include more than 200 different fibers to meet the needs of different customers. Each innovative product aims at improving the aesthetics of fabrics and bringing continuous functionality to R&D, thereby continuing to promote the business of the world's top brands and retailers.
