Seventy-year illiterate old woman sculpted into the root carving master

The young girl with flowing skirts, the peacock that lived up to her spirits, and the talented monkey fishing month, the root carving masterpieces placed in the bedroom, actually came from a 78-year-old illiterate woman.

Yesterday, Tian Guiying said that in the late 1980s, he followed his son and daughter from Wuhan Jiangxia to life in Ezhou. Thirty-two years ago, when his wife died of illness, Tian Guiying was very painful, and his wife’s southern comrades enlightened her to plant some flowers and leaves and took a little bit of attention. Never thought that Tian Guiying’s old people had a close relationship with the dead wood.

She slowly grinds round rasps, flat rasps, and nails into a perforated carving knife and a wood cutting knife. Based on his own understanding and imagination, Tian Guiying actually changed the root of the dead tree to "live." She named her virgin "Peacock Sun." In this way, the old people who had not entered the school day and who could not read literarily relied on their own feelings to sculpt a piece of root carving that did not look so exquisite but was very similar. Through the practice and refinement of Tian Guiying’s elderly people, she finally figured out the rules for doing root carving.

Today, with dead roots and remaining fruit nucleus, she can use it as a craft. The piece “Month of the Monkey Fishing” is Tian Guiying’s “fishing out” from a pool of incinerated garbage. At first, it was a strangely twisted tree root and it was burned. This "baby" put a hand at home, and the old man has been wondering what it can do. Once, Tian Guiying washed away the black ash on the surface of the roots with a brush, and scraped off the small stones on the surface. Suddenly it felt like it was a group of small "monkeys."

For more than 30 years, the root carvings of the old people have never been sold, and they are all placed in the living room shelves and coffee tables. "The root carvings have a relationship with me. When I go to bed and get up every day, I see them. I feel very good."

Tian Guiying said: "When I look at the roots that look strangely shaped, I will take them home. Some neighbors still think that I am broken."
