What is Melden?

Melden

Melton

A wool fabric woven from carded wool with a fine texture of fine suede. Created in the United Kingdom, the production center at that time was in Meltonmowbray, Lester County, hence the name of the place, referred to as Melton. Mainly used as fabrics for winter clothing such as coats and uniforms. Most of the 64 fine wool mixed combed short hairs are used as raw materials, and the warp and weft yarns of 12 or more are weaved with twill or plain weave to form a fabric with a large warp and weft density. It weighs about 390 to 490 g/m2. After heavy velvet finishing, the fabric feels rich, elastic, crisp, non-wrinkle, durable, resistant to water and wind. Usually dyed into navy or other dark colors. The products are mostly pure wool, sometimes to improve the spinnability of the raw materials and the abrasion resistance of the fabric, and also incorporate a small amount of nylon; it is also useful for the wool-stained Melden blended with 20% to 30% viscose. In general, Melden, which has a combed yarn as a warp and a carded yarn as a weft, has better strength and elasticity than a coarse textile.
