Bed sheet is not easy

Last week, the Beijing Youth Daily “Guangsha Times” published an article “Chaos of Home Textile Products”, which conveyed to consumers the information that buyers’ textile products need to be carefully monitored. In recent days, a news about “carcinogenicity of home textiles” once again caused consumers nervous tensions, fearing that they and their families had the trick of “toxic home textiles”.

For this reason, the Beijing Youth Daily “Guangsha Times” continues to follow. The information comes from the official website of the Beijing Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce. The content shows that: After quality inspection of bedding products, it was found that Ariel, Ying Shi, Lamb, Red Fuji, Yalu, Jinpei, Kaisheng Home Textiles, Bo Yang Home Textiles, Fa Dani and other branded products were listed as unqualified products. The main problems involved were the use of bedding products, fiber content, color fastness, and size deviation rate, which did not meet the relevant standards. Among them, two brands, Yalu and Jinpei, were detected to contain cancer-causing substance "dividable cancer aromatic amines".

Recognize the home textile products around you

While being scared by this news, should consumers ask themselves to understand the home textile products they are using and preparing to buy? Concerned about health problems yet?

In fact, the "Poison Home Textile" incident is just an introduction. Home textile products are not as simple as you think. The knowledge is still very deep. Experts in the industry said that the average consumer only pays attention to pattern designs. They think that picking up bedclothes, choosing fabrics, and making curtains are the easiest steps in grooming a home. This idea is too sloppy and the closest to everyday life is home textiles. Products actually contain many things that ordinary consumers do not know.

The depth of color and degree of fading are not the criteria for judging the quality of home textiles

The darker and more colorful, the deeper the color fade, the higher the number of home textile products, the quality of the problem, the higher the possibility of using "toxic dyes." Most consumers have the above ideas. Insiders point out that this is wrong and unscientific. This consumer misunderstanding needs to be reversed. Zhao Yumei, Assistant to General Manager of Yina Home Textiles, told Guangsha Times that the color depth and fade degree of textiles did not determine the amount of pollutants, nor was it a criterion for judging the quality of the products.

The color fastness of dark-colored home textiles may be inferior to that of light-colored products. This may be related to the fact that coloring techniques and drying are not in place. Therefore, dark-colored home textiles may lose their color when infiltrated or rinsed. For example, when two or three flushes are made before the big red bedding, it is normal for the color to disappear. These are floating colors and are not made of toxic dyes. However, Zhao Yumei also bluntly stated that if home textile products that are still faded after repeated washings are used, there may be quality problems, and consumers should have a good idea.

Carcinogenic dye country has long been banned

Guangsha Times found that of the ten unqualified brands and products sold in the Beijing market announced by the Trade and Industry Bureau, only the luxurious jacquard printing four-piece set of Dongguan Yalu Home Textiles and the stylish Korean style of Shanghai Jinpei Home Textiles. The four-piece set detected "carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes that can be decomposed". The remaining eight brands such as Kaisheng Home Textiles and Boyang Home Textiles were all unqualified in terms of product specifications, fiber content, and dimensional deviation ratio, and did not involve pollution problems. However, people in the textile industry stated that the 20% of “toxic home textiles” has dragged the entire industry. In fact, most regular home textile brands have stayed away from “carcinogenic dyes” more than a decade ago.

According to Ge Keming, general manager of Featherland Yujialan, the carcinogen “decomposable aromatic amine dye” detected by the Bureau of Industry and Commerce is a toxic chemical substance that makes textile products easier to color and brighter. The use of this kind of dye has low cost and fast coloring, so some small textile factories will use this as raw material for processing. However, as early as ten years ago, China had explicitly banned the use of "aromatic amine dyes," and China's mandatory standard "National Textile Basic Safety Technical Regulations" (GB18401-2010) also explicitly requested that A, B, and C textiles. The degradable carcinogenic aromatic amine dye must be disabled.

Consumers can check their home textiles if they are not at ease

Although "carcinogenic home textiles" is only an example, consumers are still doubtful about the bedding they are using. Zhao Yanmei of Yina Home Textiles recommends that if consumers are not confident about their home textile products, they can submit their own inspections and find professional inspection agencies to help. At present, there are three textile quality inspection organizations approved by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision: beijing apparel quality supervision and inspection station, Beijing Textile Fiber Inspection Institute, Beijing Textile Products and Dye Additive Quality Supervision and Inspection Station. The inspection fee is charged according to the test items, and the price of each item is a few hundred dollars.
